Emberfall Chronicles
Emberfall Chronicles is the game we lost a weekend to. It's a classic turn-based RPG where you build a party of four, each with their own skill trees, and work through a story about a crumbling border kingdom. The writing is better than it has any right to be on a phone — characters argue, change their minds, and occasionally make you feel bad for a choice you made two chapters ago.
Combat is where it clicks. Positioning matters, elemental weaknesses matter, and the boss fights force you to actually rethink your loadout rather than just mash attack. There's a satisfying rhythm to swapping party members between fights to cover different threats.
Everything runs offline, including the save system, so you can grind a dungeon on the metro and not lose a thing. The only downside is the slightly fiddly menu for managing inventory, but that's a small complaint against sixty-plus hours of content.
What we liked
- Deep turn-based combat
- Strong, choice-driven story
- Full offline progression
